I was asked to make cupcakes with a hat theme for our Pastor’s wife’s birthday. I delighted in the challenge! Here are the tops of the hats, which I made by pressing sugar cookie dough into teaspoons. For the hat brim part I used a biscuit cutter.
Then I was up to my elbows in melted chocolate experimenting with drizzling techniques… and sampling it to make sure I’d melted it correctly, of course. 😉
And here’s what the hats looked like–
Then I made cupcakes using Ina Garten’s recipe. Instead of the peanut butter icing, I wanted something a little classier to go with the black-and-white theme I’d started, so I made a traditional cream cheese icing.
As I was experimenting with the chocolate, I wrote Amie’s name on wax paper and froze it to see if it would solidify into a little emblem for the cupcakes. It did! And despite my accidentally snapping it I was stuck it in place, it still gave the appearance of being perfectly intact once it was wedged into the icing. And voila, my masterpiece was finished.
They were so much fun to make! My desire to start a catering business has been renewed.
